Does Marshalls Drug Test?
Usually not! Marshalls does not require a drug test during its hiring process. It’s owned by TJX Companies Inc–which also runs TJ Maxx – a business entity that does not normally drug test.
However, keep in mind that the company reserves the right to conduct random drug tests under reasonable suspicion. You can be called in on the spot or on the following day if you appear to be under the influence.
Marshalls also conducts post-accident drug testing for employees who encounter an injury at work. Still, policies vary depending on which location you are applying to.
All in all, you’ll still want to be prepared for the possibility of a random drug test. Continue reading to learn more about Marshalls’ hiring process and how you can pass a random drug test!
Marshalls Hiring Process
With stores across 40 states and over 60 branches in Canada, Marshalls is a fast-paced business that is always looking for new hires. Its process is quick, straightforward, and extremely hassle-free. Here’s what you can expect.
Initial Job Application
You can apply for a job at Marshalls in two ways: through an online application or in-store application. You’ll need to fill out an employment form and attach required documents such as your resume, qualifications, and educational files.
Depending on your state laws, you may be subject to a background check.
First And Second Interview
Shortly after you submit your application, you’ll be called in for a group interview. You’ll be clustered with up to 10 other applicants and be asked to solve a special task–through this, employers can evaluate your level of cooperation, teamwork, innovation, and creativity.
After passing the group interview, you’ll be asked to come back for an individual interview with a manager.
The second interview zeros in on your previous work experience and work ethic. Some questions you can expect to be asked are:
- What skills were you best able to develop at your previous job?
- Please describe your best personality traits.
- Provide an example of how you’ve handled disagreements with co-workers in your previous workplace.
Being a fashion-focused company, you’ll also be expected to uphold some retail knowledge, especially if you’re gunning to find a job as a sales associate. They’ll also test your familiarity with customer service basics and Marshalls-related information regarding company culture.
After The Interview
If you’ve booked the job, you’ll be notified via email or phone call within 1-2 weeks. You’ll then be asked to attend a new employee orientation.
If you’re working as a sales associate, Marshalls offers a competitive hourly rate of $10, which is either directly deposited to your account or presented as a check.
How Do I Pass a Random Drug Test at Marshalls?
As previously mentioned, you’ll only ever be drug tested at Marshalls for these primary reasons:
- If your background check reveals a previous criminal record
- If your answers to interview questions appear suspicious
- If you encounter an accident on the job
Depending on which state you live in, you’ll either be asked to take a urine, swab, or hair test.
