SEMINAR
The Experience of the Family
After a Child's Death
Description

This seminar focuses on the bereavement experience of family members
after a child's death. Relevant bereavement theory will be reviewed,
including new and emerging insights into the bereavement experience
of family members not previously well understood by health care
professionals. Discussion will be grounded through the playing of
several songs written and performed by a professional singer-songwriter
who is herself a bereaved parent, and discussing the narrative of
a bereaved sibling. Particular attention will be given to the ways

Participants will be able to:
- Identify emerging trends in bereavement theory applicable to the experience of family members after the death of a child.
- Understand the role of spirituality and continuing bonds with the deceased child for bereaved parents.
- Describe methods and modes of intervention supportive to grieving families.
